What is Calithumpians?

Calithumpians is an ancient tradition wherein young people, dressed in costume and disguise, paraded through the streets celebrating and making a joyous noise.

This troupe of enthusiastic performers has presented lively theatre in Fredericton's festival centre for three decades. Each season the company produces four shows, based on historical themes or social issues, which run in repertory through each week.

All programs are family-oriented and are intended for both visitors and locals, providing an array of entertaining and educational shows featuring music and comedy.

Calithumpians do collective creation as the troupe collaborates to write their own scripts and improvises much of the shows. The troupe follows a tradition of adapting material from various sources: folklore, literature, history and local humour.
