PETER PACEY is a native of Fredericton New Brunswick where he has established himself as a community leader in various fields. Professionally he is an innovative educator, theatre producer and historical interpreter, but as a volunteer he has been heavily involved in sports administration and coaching and various other community causes.

The larger part of his sporting background has been spent in the Rugby community coaching and administering at various levels for local, provincial and national organizations. He has also been a leader in the training of coaches through the National Coaching Certification Program. He was a key instigator and facilitator in bringing the Aliant Atlantic Canada Rugby Super League into being in 2000. He most recently spent two years as the Chair of the Rugby Canada National Coaching Committee between 2002-2004.

He was Assistant Coach to Al McAdam with the St. Thomas University Tommies Hockey Program for three years and played an integral role bringing the Tommies to their first league final in his inaugural season with the team. Since then he has been a team motivator stepping in to assist with subsequent Tommie teams. He is an avid hockey fan and is an active member of the St. Thomas University “Friends of STU Hockey”. In addition, he has coached minor hockey in the FYHA.

His professional career began in teaching, first at Fredericton High School where he taught English and pioneered Canadian Literature. Later, he taught teachers at the University of New Brunswick and up until 2003 he specialized in English and Canadian Studies at St. Thomas University.

Much of his life has been spent volunteering for various causes. He is the past president of Fredericton Heritage Trust and has been instrumental in fighting various heritage issues in the capital and beyond. He has been a member of various committees focusing on the development of Fredericton’s historic Military Compound as a major tourism site and festival centre.

As a professional performer and director he has been involved in over 75 shows with his own companies, Calithumpinas and Fredericton Outdoor Summer Theatre. He has appeared professionally at the National Arts Centre, Theatre New Brunswick and Neptune Theatre. In addition he has appeared in a number of films, television shows and videos, most recently as character Coach Maroni in Blowies that garnered big laughs at The Tidal Wave Film Festival 2004.

Annually he produces and directs Big Hearts for the Homeless on Valentines Day at the Playhouse as a benefit for the Fredericton Emergency Shelters. In 1998 he was the producer and director of the Fredericton 150 Revue, which played to packed houses and rave reviews. His one-man show, Bull of the Woods, is still in popular demand for conventions, dinner theatre and in schools.
